What should I NOT include?

The following assets are exempt from zakāt and should not be entered unless noted otherwise.

Always exempt — all madhabs

  • Primary residence — the home you live in. Investment or rental properties are separate (use Rental Property category for zakātable net income).
  • Personal vehicle — the car(s) you use for personal transport. Vehicles held as stock-in-trade are zakātable.
  • Household furniture & appliances — sofas, white goods, electronics for personal use.
  • Clothing & personal effects — worn or used for personal need, regardless of value.
  • Tools & professional equipment — machinery, instruments, or tools you use to earn a living (not goods for sale).

Conditional — varies by madhab

  • Personal-use jewellery — exempt under Shāfiʿī, Mālikī & Ḥanbalī (if worn regularly and within customary limits). Ḥanafī: fully zakātable — use the Gold / Silver category and toggle "personal jewellery" on to let the engine apply the correct rule automatically.
  • Long-term investment property— the property's capital value is generally exempt; only net rental income may be zakātable. Do not enter the property valuation directly.

If in doubt, log the asset under Non-Zakatable Assets so your records are complete without affecting the calculation.
